save our zoo
in 1991 i did a story on how bad london zoo was
i was given some access as the zoo was trying to promote a 'save our zoo' campaign
i published a little zine for my assignment titled 'CLOSE OUR ZOO'
it was horrible to see animals being kept in the conditions they were in
after my initial visit, i would return after hours, jumping the fence to the zoo in regents park to photograph the animals when the public had gone
until one day when i luckily noticed the zoo had moved the wolves to the enclosure i used to jump into
coincidentally, i spent this morning at the big cat sanctuary in kent, again
and again, a tiger demonstrated how much he'd like to tear me to pieces
my tiger project is not going well...but that's another story...

this was the biggest kicker: when the zoo closes, the elephants got locked up
4 elephants chained together in a room 5 elephants wide: they got to shuffle forward and back
i wanted to FREE the elephants

i have been back to london zoo since 1991
i hope its better than it was
can't imagine it is: too small to be fit for purpose
